Grant agreement for barge appointment system signed by Upper Rhine Ports and European Commission

Good news about our ports

02 December 2015

On December 1st, 2015, the directors of the involved ports, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg, together with RheinPorts Basel-Mulhouse-Weil am Rhein, have signed a grant agreement with the European Commission for the ‘Upper Rhine traffic management system’. This barge appointment system is a promising and innovative project for the optimisation of the traffic management within the TEN-T Rhine-Alpine Corridor.

The contract ensures the further commissioning and development of the traffic management system for the next three years and it gives a detailed definition of the project approach. Furthermore, the project will be supported by the European Traffic and Infrastructure Fund CEF (Connecting Europe Facilities) with almost 1 million euros.
A first version of the RPIS (RheinPorts Information System) is already in use in pilot operations at the RheinPorts terminals. As a next step, the system will be expanded towards other Upper Rhine Ports.
