The Port Authority of Osijek joins European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP)

EFIP is delighted to welcome the Port Authority of Osijek as a new member.

The Port Authority of Osijek is a public non-profit legal institution established under the Act on the Inland Ports in 2001. The Port of Osijek is located on the river Drava in the city of Osijek, administrative centre of Osijek-Baranja County. It is located in the non-urbanized eastern part of the City of Osijek and about 5 km from the city centre. Total area of the existing port area is 150 ha with the coastline 3,5 km, and it is very good connected by rail and road with hinterland and only 8,5 km far from the airport.

The Port Authority of Osijek plans the further development of the Port of Osijek by conducting the following projects:

Construction of the bulk cargo terminal – quay length 240 meters, covering area 4 ha. The project is in a high development phase and is planned to be co-financed under the European Cohesion fund.
Construction and reconstruction of the south quay – quay length 890 m, covering area 20 ha;
Construction of intermodal infrastructure in the western part of Port of Osijek – quay length 2200 m, covering area 92 ha.
Darko Takalić, Managing Director of the Port Authority of Osijek, said: “As EFIP is promoter of inland ports and is acting as the unique voice of inland ports in Europe, the Port Authority of Osijek is honoured to become an EFIP member and is looking forward to a constructive cooperation with other members of this organization.”

EFIP President, Hans-Peter Hadorn, said: “We very much welcome the membership of the Port Authority of Osijek because the Danube and its strategic are key areas of attention. The port authority is strategically located on the right bank of the river Drave tributary of the River Danube. Besides it forms an important cross-point for transportation towards central Europe and Eastward to the Black sea.”

EFIP Director Alexander van den Bosch said: “I am really looking forward to working with the Port Authority of Osijek at the EU-level. I believe their expertise and involvement will strengthen our position and focus on the further integrated and sustainable development of the Danube corridor.”
