Inauguration of the Brussels Cruise Terminal

On 20 April 2018, the Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, Rudi Vervoort, and the Chairman of the Port of Brussels, Mohammed Jabour, inaugurated the new Port of Brussels passenger terminal, Brussels Cruise Terminal.
The quay has been constructed on the Canal’s left bank and allows river cruise boats that are limited by their size to the Van Praet bridge to dock in Brussels. These boats can measure up to 135 metres and welcome up to 200 passengers.
Cruise ships were already calling in at Brussels 160 days a year (12,000 passengers in 2017), docking at Quai de Heembeek, an industrial quay intended to keep that purpose. Brussels Cruise Terminal provides these boats with a terminal worthy of Brussels’s status of international capital, in line with the “Plan Canal” and with the collaboration of the Brussels-Capital Region, the City of Brussels, Brussels Mobility and Visit Brussels.
The socio-economic study prior to the beginning of the project stated that the terminal could welcome 35,000 passengers per year by 2030, representing an economic benefit to Brussels of around 5 million euros per year.
