EFIP-ESPO Joint Position on the Revision of the Combined Transport Directive
26 April 2022
The
European ports, EFIP and ESPO, have joined forces in creating a set of
recommendations for the revision of the Combined Transport Directive and
achieving the multimodal objectives of the Smart and Sustainable Mobility
Strategy. The position will be submitted to the ongoing public
consultation, which the Commission has launched in preparation of the revision
of the Combined Transport Directive. Ports are core hubs supporting and driving
multimodal transport across the EU and are key players for achieving a modal
shift towards rail, inland and short-sea shipping. The European transport
system is reliant on the interlinkage of the different transport modes. European
ports believe that it is necessary for the EU to create a strong multimodal
framework which supports the interconnections between sustainable modes of
transport.
